On Civil Rights
One of the more famous speeches on Civil Rights was made by Martin Luther King Jr. On August 28, 1963, he spoke these words.
The term “Civil Rights” applies to all people, irrespective of any differentiating distinction. Equality means treating everyone equally and providing equal opportunity. Occasionally out of a genuine desire to correct wrongs of the past, misguided individuals violate Civil Rights by favoring one group of people over another. As a nation we should be beyond this. Our laws demand equality. That means at this stage of our evolution, all decisions at every level need to be merit based without advancement or discrimination based on any distinction of any kind.
